About training
Pavement management is a system designed to provide information about the operation and condition of road structures so that road owners can provide safe travel for road users at the lowest possible cost. It also helps to provide accurate and reliable information about the condition of the road network to decision-makers in the planning and financing of repairs and upgrades. In our country, the problem of pavement management has traditionally been to support reactive maintenance, where the road is repaired mainly by standard methods after a certain amount of visible damage to the pavement. Advances in digitized research methods in recent years, as well as a better understanding of road failure mechanisms and root causes of pavement failure, are making it possible to move toward proactive maintenance policies. By using these policies, the root cause of the problem can be identified and then the corrective action can be initiated. In the future, new technologies are moving in the direction of allowing pavements to be repaired before visible damage occurs. If done correctly, the annual cost of paving can be much lower than the cost of repairing after damage.
Learning objectives
The objective of this course is to provide road industry professionals with an understanding of Pavement Management Systems to better understand the failure mechanisms affecting the lifetime of paved and gravel road networks and how to control them with different technologies. It will provide theoretical and practical examples of how organizations can adopt more cost-effective and proactive maintenance policies. The content is based on the latest research results and the practical experience of international teaching teachers, which has the advantage of being translated into the native language.
